See a Different Side of Buenos Aires in Tigre Delta!
If you love nature or you have a second day in Buenos Aires, Tigre Delta is an excellent option to get to know a different side of the city.
Located only 35 km/21 miles from downtown Buenos Aires is one of the biggest deltas in the world, formed by more than 5000 islands. The town of Tigre is the starting point for a visit to Paraná Delta. For decades, locals have escaped to this quiet area — known as the green Venice of South America — away from the fast pace of Buenos Aires. Just a short distance from the city, it is a completely different experience in this water community with no roads.
After picking up from your hotel in Buenos Aires, we drive toward Tigre city through the beautiful north suburbs of Buenos Aires. Our first stop is San Isidro, one of the most exclusive residential districts of the capital. Here we can admire the former colonial mansions belonging to the wealthiest class of porteños, dating back to the early XIX century. We can go even further back in time, by visiting some of the oldest estates in the suburbs of Buenos Aires, with the most spectacular views of the neighborhood and the river beyond it. History, nature and beauty all combined in one.
Then we continue to Tigre city, visiting the traditional Puerto de Frutos, a popular market near the port that offers a variety of crafts such as leather goods, baskets, and wicker furniture, all made by local artisans. Here we will have an option to have a bite at one of the many local food stalls and restaurants. If you prefer something different for your lunch, you are in luck, the northern suburbs are some of the most exclusive neighborhoods in all the Metropolitan area of Buenos Aires, just let your guide know what you like and he will be more than happy to advice you.
Later we will head to the fluvial port where we will board a typical catamaran passenger ferry sailing for about an hour through the Delta rivers. As we sail, with your guide always by your side, we will explore the origin of the Delta islands, its inhabitants, as well as traditional floating services such as the supermarket, firemen, and public bus boats. On our ride we will also see historical palaces and yacht club and discover some of its many stories.
On our ride back to the city of Buenos Aires, our guide will have some more hidden gems for you to discover. Prepare to relax and be amazed!
